After divorce you may find that you have to make several lifestyle changes. One of which is downsizing your car! Whether you had 2 cars in the household or one, now you find a yourself in a new position. Getting around and having your freedom is still important. However this may come at a price. If before you were used to driving a large people carrier or a 4×4. It was a luxury which both of you could afford. In difficult times, decisions have to be made in order to accomodate these changes and that may mean down sizing.
Here are some points to consider
Shop around for a car which has a better fuel economy and which runs further before it needs re-filling.
1 Road tax
Road tax prices have changed depending on the engine size and the co2 it gives off. Go for a car in a lower tax band tax band.
2 Car insurance
Shop around for the best deals. This may take time. The bigger your vehicle and the more expensive it is plus taking into consideration emissions etc could force you to pay more than you want or expect to.
3 How much is your car worth?
Research motoring websites or get a magazine or a decent trade publication to get an idea of price.
4 Do you need to sell your car?
Once you’ve decided what car to buy, you might want to think about selling your current one. You can advertise with large traders or simply do it privately yourself. Remember you have a better chance of getting more for your car if you go private.
5 What car should I buy?
Think careful about what you want to buy and whether or not you have a budget for it depending on the size and type of car to suit your needs. Shop around as there are alot of good offers due to the nature of the current economic climate.
6. Buy a used car
A popular choice and well worth the money if you ensure that you do your research and the proper checks are done. Give yourself a budget and try to stick with it.
